Clear Polycarbonate Sheet

VULCAN corrugated clear polycarbonate sheets can be used standalone or overlapped with matching metal roof panels, and are often chosen for its aesthetics and better reflective and refractive properties compared to standard solid flat sheets.

Corrugated polycarbonate sheets are split into two subcategories, circular and angular corrugated profiles.

Circular Corrugated Polycarbonate Sheets

Circular corrugated polycarbonate sheets such as ROMA and MINI profiles are great for areas which require indirect sunlight penetration. Clear polycarbonate sheets are the most common among greenhouse applications as the natural haze of polycarbonate plus the refractive properties of the corrugations prevent sunburn, while retaining all of the solar properties necessary to promote plant growth. Vulcan corrugated polycarbonate sheets have great haze and refractive properties. Clear polycarbonate sheets also allow maximum solar transmittance.

Angular Corrugated Polycarbonate Sheets

Angular corrugated polycarbonate sheets profiles such as TRIMDEKGRECAJEMPALPUMA and JAGUAR are normally used on industrial or commercial applications since they are designed to match metal profiles of the same pitch and depth, and normally spaced in between.

Clear Polycarbonate Sheets Applications

Clear polycarbonate sheets are widely used across various industries due to their exceptional strength, light weight, and transparency. Typical applications include:

  • Roofing and skylights – delivering natural light while maintaining structural safety.
  • Greenhouses – providing high light transmission and long-term durability for plant growth.
  • Safety glazing – serving as a glass replacement in areas that require superior impact resistance.
  • Protective barriers – commonly installed in factories, public facilities, and sports arenas.
  • Signage and displays – ensuring clear visibility with excellent weather resistance.
  • Architectural designs – used in modern building facades and decorative structures.

Advantages of Clear Polycarbonate Sheets

  • High impact resistance – up to 200 times stronger than glass, making them highly durable.
  • Lightweight – easier to handle, transport, and install compared to glass.
Excellent light transmission – allows up to 90% of light to pass through, similar to glass.
  • Weather and UV resistance – suitable for outdoor applications without yellowing quickly.
  • Versatility – can be cut, bent, or thermoformed for various designs.
Safety – shatter-resistant, reducing the risk of injury when broken.

Clear Polycarbonate Sheets: Common Questions Answered

Q1: Are clear polycarbonate sheets stronger than glass?

Yes. Polycarbonate sheets are up to 200 times stronger than glass, making them highly impact-resistant and safer to use in areas that require durability.

Q2:Do clear polycarbonate sheets turn yellow over time?

Without UV protection, polycarbonate may yellow with prolonged sun exposure. However, most modern sheets come with UV-resistant coatings to maintain clarity.

Q3:Can clear polycarbonate sheets be cut or shaped?

Yes. They can be cut, drilled, bent, or thermoformed, making them very versatile for different applications.

Q4:Are clear polycarbonate sheets expensive?

They are generally more expensive than acrylic or glass, but their durability, impact resistance, and long lifespan often justify the cost.

Q5:Which is stronger, perspex or polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate is significantly stronger than Perspex (acrylic). While Perspex offers good clarity and is more scratch-resistant, polycarbonate provides up to 200 times the impact resistance of glass and around 30 times more strength than Perspex.

This makes polycarbonate the preferred choice in applications where safety and durability are critical, such as safety glazing, protective barriers, and roofing.
